From FaceBook to Blog with no Apology

Here is my FaceBook post that led me back here:
Was reading a news article about the discovery of a huge black hole in our own Milky Way galaxy. It contained the following: “The massive star was orbiting a ’dark companion’ located 15 thousand light-years from Earth.” While perusing the news we read about light-years on a pretty regular basis. I know what a light year is. But I don’t really comprehend how really far it is. Then one reads about “things” in the universe located hundreds, then thousands, then tens of thousands,...then multi-billion light years from earth!
Time and distance. Are those “things” still out there, or long, long gone? Or are we essentially alone? What’s really “out there” now? Calling Rod Serling.
